Plenary Sessions

Tuesday, November 4 | 8:30 am – 10:30 am ET

Presentation and Fireside Chat

Canada’s Future in Focus: Immigration, Innovation, and the Next Generation of Talent

Please note: IRCC will no longer be participating in the conference due to federal government communication restrictions leading up to the upcoming budget announcement. However, we are pleased to confirm that an immigration conversation will still take place, featuring the thought leaders listed below.

As Canada navigates a rapidly changing global landscape, understanding the evolving public attitudes toward immigration and the future of talent development has never been more important. This two-part plenary session begins with an in-depth look at nearly five decades of Canadian perspectives on immigration and refugees, presented by Andrew Parkin, Executive Director of the Environics Institute. His research will provide vital context for the current policy environment and its implications for international education.

Building on this foundation, the second hour turns to the future of Canada’s talent strategy. With Prime Minister Mark Carney set to unveil a new national talent strategy in Federal Budget 2025, the conversation then turns to what it will take to build Canada’s next generation of innovators. Leaders from the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) join Larissa Bezo, President and CEO of CBIE, for a fireside chat on how collaboration across business, education, and immigration systems can position Canada for success in the years ahead.

This session is approved by CICC for 2 hours of RISIA/RCIC CPD.
