Bridging Perspectives: Leadership Lessons from Both Sides of the Border
08:30 to 16:30
Co-hosted by CBIE and the AIEA Leadership Academy.
International education is at a critical inflection point. Institutions are navigating intensifying financial pressures, shifting political priorities, and heightened public scrutiny, all of which demand a bold rethinking of how we define, advocate for, and sustain internationalization.
This interactive workshop, developed through a unique collaboration between the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) and the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) Leadership Academy, will draw on the complementary strengths of Canadian and American institutional contexts. Participants will gain a nuanced understanding of how different policy environments, funding models, and organizational structures shape leadership strategies—while also surfacing the common challenges and shared opportunities that unite across borders.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Develop strategies to lead institutional change and effectively communicate the value of internationalization;
- Apply advocacy approaches that support international education priorities within their institutional and policy environments;
- Identify financial models and budgeting practices that enhance the sustainability of international initiatives;
- Explore emerging models of global collaboration that move beyond traditional mobility to include talent development, research engagement, and inclusive global learning.
